Chipmunk (Eastern)

Biology:

Usually a Solitary animal living alone ….Except during courtship/mating periods or rearing young.

Mating Habits: Usually 2 times per year. During the early spring …again in the summer or early fall.

Gestation period: 31 days

Birthing Times: April to May……August to October

Litter Size:  2 to 5 (pups) per litter…..pups are sexually mature after 1 year.

Life Span:  Approximately 3 years.

Foods: Fruits, Nuts, Seeds, Grains, Berries & Carrion 

Hibernation: a restless hibernation……..usually emerges from it in early March.

Legal Status: Not protected by federal law, but State & Local Regulations may apply.

Catch & Release Status:  It is NOT LEGAL to release this or any animal on the land(s) of another with out written permission from the land owner.  This is the LAW in Ohio.
