Moles

 

 

 

Biology: It is an insectivore, lives in underground burrows, rarely found on the surface.

               3-5 moles per acre is considered a HIGH population.

 

Mating Habits:  Occurs in January-February.  Breeding at about 1 year of age.

 

Gestation period:  42-45 days is normal

 

Birthing Times:  March & early April

 

Litter Size:  3-5 young per litter is normal

 

Life Span: Approx 3 years

 

Foods:  Diet consists of earthworms, insects, grubs & beetles found beneath the soil. Moles can  eat the equivalence of there body weight in worms & insects each day.

 

Hibernation:  Moles do NOT hibernate.  They are active year round.

 

Legal Status: Not protected by federal law, but State & Local Regulations may apply.

 

Catch & Release Status:  It is NOT LEGAL to release this or any animal on the land(s) of another without written permission from the land owner.  This is the LAW in Ohio.
